Self Care

When we hear the term self care, many of us probably think of taking a nice hot bath, getting a massage or perhaps taking a yoga class. All of these things feel great, and really help to bring us back to our center, calming the mind and relaxing the body.

The importance of caring for the mind, body and spirit by doing things like these on regular basis, if for no other reason than the fact that they just feel good, seems like a no-brainer, however for many people self care is treated as a luxury to be indulged in only on occasion, or simply dismissed as a “wouldn’t it be nice” sort of afterthought.

Because of the pace in the modern world, so many people today choose to prioritize hustling and grinding over following their body/soul’s yearning for self care because it seems counterintuitive.

But if you stop and think about it, what could be more important than treating yourself right? When you take care of yourself and your whole being is in harmony, you are in a state where you function exponentially better, regardless of what you are doing.

After neglecting the voice inside me that was nudging me to do what felt right for quite some time, one day I woke up and realized just how crazy it was that I was ignoring something I intuitively knew I needed to be doing, but wasn’t because I had been conditioned to believe that it wasn’t important, and that grinding out long days under stressful conditions was somehow the right thing to do (even though it always felt wrong)

Realizing this brought me to tears because even in the beginning I knew that if I followed my intuition and practiced self care, somehow everything would fall into place, but learned self doubt and the fear of going against what is considered “normal” prevented me from being true to myself.

Do yourself a favor and listen to that voice ; )
